Big Hairy Dog Retail Backup Standards: Requirements: - Onsite and offsite backups - Multiple redundant complete backups (not incremental). One Possible Plan using a Tape backup: You need a backup tape for each day of the week that you are open, With a 2nd Friday tape. You need a backup tape for each Month You need a backup tape for each Year That is a minimum of 21 tapes. Other backup Media would include: USB Flash Drives, CDR discs, DVDR discs, Removable hard drives, or whatever. You come in on Monday and you put in the Monday tape, take out the Sunday tape and take it offsite to a fireproof safe. You come in on Tuesday, bring back the Sunday tape, take out the Monday tape, put in the Tuesday tape, and take the Monday tape offsite. Every other Friday you use the 2nd Friday tape so that at worst case you only lose one week of data if your other daily tapes are bad. Last day of the month you put in the Monthly tape and the next day you take it offsite for permanent storage. Same for end of year. The mechanics of how this is done in the software or on the server is going to be different for every type of backup drive/device/software. However, Big Hairy Dog sells and supports a backup software program called NTI Backup Now. Click on NTI Backup Now to view the instructions on how to setup a backup with CDR discs using NTI Backup Now.
