FIELD LENGTHS

For Retail Pro Version 8

Retail Pro comes with Default field lengths. These field lengths can be modified to your specific needs by using RPRO DB located in the tools menu.  You can define the lengths of the key inventory fields used throughout Retail Pro.

NOTE: RPRO DB is intolerant of other Retail Pro activities.  Before running RPRO DB, be certain all other users have exited the program.  It is strongly recommended that you have a current backup of your data files before running RPRO DB or any other program that modifies these files.

To change the field lengths, follow these steps…

1.  From the main menu of Retail Pro, select Tools

2.  Choose RPRO DB from the side menu.

3.  Select the FIELDS tab to display the inventory fields.

4.  Change the desired fields by clicking on the NEW column and entering the new values.

Note: The new values must be within the allowed field length ranges, shown below.

Vend Code (3-6), Desc 1 (10-30), Desc 2 (10-30), Desc 3 (5-30), Desc 4 (5-30), Attribute (4-8), Size (4-8), Department (1-3), Class (1-3), Subclass (1-3), UPC (13-18)

5.  When done, select OK to save your changes.

RPRO DB will automatically reconstruct the appropriate files upon exiting.  Select OK to change data file structure.

NOTE: If you change a field length in RPRO DB, be sure to make that same change in the Reports module.

1. From the main menu, select Analysis

2. Choose Reports from the side menu.

3. Choose Field Lengths from the side menu.

4. Modify the fields to the desired lengths.

5. Select OK to save your changes.

Retail Pro comes with Default field lengths. These field lengths can be modified to your specific needs by using the Screen Designer.  You can define the lengths of the key inventory fields used throughout Retail Pro.

To change the field lengths, follow these steps…

1.  From the main menu of Retail Pro, select Preferences, and choose "System".

2.  Select Screen Designer

3.  Choose Inventory

4.  Choose "Set" by pressing enter

5.  Page up and down to select the inventory screen you wish to edit.

6.  Arrow to the right and select "Resize" at the bottom.

7.  Arrow left and right to choose the field you wish to resize and press enter.

8.  Arrow left and right to resize the field to the desired length. Press enter when done.

Message: You may get a message reminding you to reconstruct the inventory. Press Enter to close this message.

Note: The altered lengths must be within the allowed field length ranges, shown below.

Vend Code (3-6), Desc 1 (10-30), Desc 2 (10-30), Desc 3 (5-30), Desc 4 (5-30),

Attribute (4-8), Size (4-8), Department (1-3), Class (1-3), Subclass (1-3), UPC (13-18)

Almost all fields in Retail Pro 7 can be adjusted, and vary in min and max lengths allowed.

Press ESC to back out to the main menu of retail pro when done resizing.

NOTE: Increasing the size of a field may adversely affect which fields are shown on the screen. Any fields which do not fit on the first line will not be shown on the screen.

When you have completed all of your changes to the field lengths, you must reconstruct your inventory.  If you don’t know how to do this, please contact BHD Technical support.
