SCHEDULED PURGE OF POLLING LOG
The Retail Pro Scheduler program allows you to schedule various tasks to complete automatically. This typically includes polling, reconstruction and/or reporting tasks. This Feature of the Month focuses on maintaining a healthy polling log. Polling logs often grow too large and encounter corruption, resulting in various polling errors. The Scheduler program has the ability to schedule a read and purge of your polling log file on a nightly basis. This keeps the size of the file small, while still maintaining recent data for troubleshooting purposes.
To set this up, open your existing schedule for polling (on the polling workstation) and add the purge task. This applies to both Main and Remote locations.
· Open Scheduler by double clicking the Scheduler icon in the Windows system tray. → · Log in (if required) · Select ‘Edit’ > ‘Add Task’ · Set up the General page as seen in image 1-A, using the proper directory paths for your Retail Pro installation. The program is “Trans.exe” and the parameter is “/log”. · Select the Schedule tab and set up the Schedule page as seen in image 1-B, setting it to occur daily at a time that does not conflict with other polling tasks. Either before or after the polling cycle. · Select ‘OK’ · Select ‘File’ > ‘Save’ · Minimize Scheduler
Retail Pro is now scheduled to purge your polling log file every night!
