FEATURE OF THE MONTH

“PROGRAM LABELS”

Version 8 only

Have you ever wanted to modify a Retail Pro Label, such as change the Customer's Address 1 field to say "STREET", or UDF1 field to say “Birthday”?   Well, most of these types of fields in Retail Pro can be modified, and here are the step by step instructions on how to achieve that goal.

Before we begin, let's check a few key settings.  First, open Rpro to the main menu.  Select    [Options]  >  [System Preferences] (Requires all other workstations to be backed out of Retail Pro)  >  [System] (Located on the side list)Confirm that "Use user-defined Lables in Rpro" has a check mark next to it, then click  [SAVE]

If you do not have access to System Preferences, Custom Labels, or Menu Designer, contact your System Operator for increased Security Access.

1.  Let's begin by going to the main menu of Rpro, now select [OPTIONS] > [PROGRAM LABELS].  If you do not see the [PROGRAM LABELS] button, simply right-click on the side menu and choose [MENU DESIGNER], put a check mark next to "Program Labels" and click OK.

2.  This will bring us to the main screen of Program Labels where we can define our Custom Labels.  There are 3 columns in particular to pay close attention to:, LABEL, CATEGORY/SCHEMA and CUSTOM LABEL.

3.  LABEL defines how the field will show in Retail Pro by default.  Once you have found the correct category, you can now find the specific label you wish to modify.  Go ahead and click on this column's heading, this will sort the rows by Label.  Notice how the arrow is pointing down next to the Label column above.

4.  CATEGORY/SCHEMA defines the module in which the Label exists, such as Customers, Inventory, Purchase Orders, etc.

5.  CUSTOM LABEL is the column in which you input the desired alternate label.

In the example above, the word “STREET” will take the place of the “Address 1” field in the Customer Module.

Once you are done with your revisions, click [SAVE] on the side toolbar.  In order for your changes to take affect, you may have to click on System Preferences again, then click [SAVE] to return to the main menu of Retail Pro.

From the example above, the customer’s form will now look like this.
