Entering a Package

Packages allow you to group items together and sell them at a price that is usually lower than the price of the individual items separately.  The following document describes how to enter items as a package.

  1. To enter into the Inventory screen: POS/Inventory -> Inventory

  1. Create a row in inventory for each item you want to make into a package.  Make sure the items being used in the package exist in inventory with their own prices.

  1. In the QTY field, enter the amount of each item that the package will contain.  In the example, the package contains one bath towel, one hand towel, and one washcloth.  In the screen shot below, notice the QTY is one for each of these items defined in the package.

  1. Enter the price for the entire package on the row for the first item in the package

  1. In order to create the package, you must have the DESC2 field displayed on your screen.  To get this, press the ALT key and press the number 6 at the same time.  This brings up a screen with the DESC2 field already added into it.

  1. In the DESC2 field in order for the system to know the items are part of a package, you must enter a special sequence of characters.  The first special character to be used is the tilde (~) character in front of the item.  Enter the Item# of the first item in the package, followed by a slash (/) and the Item# of the first item below where you are that is part of the package (we are making a circular reference, where each item references the one below it and the last item references the first item).

  1. ESC to exit.

  1. Enter POS/INVENTORY -> Point of Sale -> Invoice

  1. Enter any of the item numbers used in the package.  Once the package has been defined properly, entering any of the item numbers of the package will allow the system to pull up the package description and all the items associated with that package.  Notice that the only price displayed is the price of the package which we defined on the Inventory screen.
