ADJUSTING TAX RATES

In Retail Pro v8

            Occasionally the need arises to adjust a local tax rate or create new tax areas in Retail Pro to comply with changing tax laws.  Follow the steps below to do this.  Please contact a BHD technician or trainer for any further questions about setting up Retail Pro to handle tax laws specific to your business or state.

1. From the main screen in Retail Pro select OPTIONS and then SYSTEM PREFERENCES.  Make sure that all other Retail Pro users are backed out to the main screen while you make these changes.

2. Select the plus sign (+) to the left of TAXES and then click directly on the word TAX AREAS. 

3. Change the drop-down box labeled TAX AREA (top-middle of the screen) to select the tax area that you want to change the tax rate for.  (NOTE: You may also select ADD at the bottom and create a brand new tax area.  In this case you will be prompted for the new tax area name before proceeding to Step 4.)

4. In the window as shown below, change the tax rate by clicking in the column labeled RATE of the row labeled TAXABLE.  Type the new rate.  Do not type a percentage sign.  Adjust any other tax codes as desired (i.e., New York users might need to adjust an apparel tax code separate from the taxable code).

5. Select SAVE from the side toolbar.

1. From the main screen in Retail Pro select PREFERENCES and then SYSTEM.  Make sure that all other Retail Pro users are backed out to the main screen while you make these changes.

2. Enter a required password and then select SETTINGS.

3. Arrow down to the Point of Sale preference labeled TAX and then hit ENTER.

4. Arrow down to DEFINE TAX AREAS and then hit ENTER.

5. Use the FIND option to locate the Tax Area that you would like to update.  Then select CHANGE at the bottom. 

6. Move the cursor over to the RATE column in the TAXABLE row.  Type in the new tax rate.  Do not type a percentage sign.  Adjust any other tax codes as desired (i.e., New York users might need to adjust an apparel tax code separate from the taxable code).

7. Press the END key to record your changes.

8. Press the ESC key four times to return to the main screen in Retail Pro.
